If you were groovin' to "The Takeshi Mix" by DJ Fred McGriff posted last week you may be interested to learn a bit more about the man behind the mix. His given name is Chris Yunt and he's been producing guitar-centric IDM as Beak since 2003.

Now, when I say "guitar-centric IDM" I'm pretty sure you must be thinking this is some hippy/folky/Sound Tribe Sector 9/hipster bullshit, BUT YOU'RE WRONG! This dude rocks the guitar the way Aphex rocks a synthesizer - the way Squarepusher rocks a bass - the way BT rocks a snare roll - the way T-Pain rocks the autotune...that is to say that he uses it A LOT on just about every fucking track and manages to make it sound fucking awesome every time.

Beak has a few brilliant EPs under his belt on the net-label Monotonik (downloadable for free from that link) as well as some solid releases by other artists on his own Futonic imprint. Check out these 2 tracks, "Buggy Ride" and "I Saw Two Of Me" to get a feel for his unique style and definitely check out his back catalog as well - good stuff!
