Skytree is quickly becoming one of my favorite producers in the game right now. His music is an odd-ball amalgamation of electro-acoustic IDM, dubstep and BoC-style atmospherics that gels together in a way that probably shouldn't work, but totally does. Acoustic guitars, nature sounds, crunchy beats and robotic bass voices all culminate in my mind's eye, creating visions of a far off future where the only remnants of humanity are ancient clockwork robots that tend the Earth as they slowly rust away. It's rare that an artist can inspire such vivid imagery in my head and that's one of the things I'm really digging about Skytree's latest output. I think he's broken some new ground with these tracks and I look forward to hearing more!

Ten Thousand Oaks by skytree

Night Heron by skytree

Echo Canyon by skytree

Skytree is really killing it lately.  His latest album "Hyphae" came out a few weeks ago on Boltfish (and it's the shit, so check it!) and with these 2 tracks he takes his sound in a slightly different direction that borders on...dubstep?  Both these tracks are pretty sick, with interesting sample manipulation and beat textures.  "Echo Canyon" features a mean vocoded didgeridoo bassline that brings that Skytree twist on what at first might sound like your typical "big room" dubstep patch. "Night Heron" is another misleadingly dancefloor-tinged banger with some chopped up vocoder vocals and some weird pitch-shifted bird noises and hell, even some flute thrown in for good measure.

Ice Age Trail by skytree

Skytree has a new record coming out soon on the British label Boltfish Recordings titled "Hyphae" and judging from this track "Ice Age Trail" it's going to be a beautiful piece of work. Those familiar with Skytree's tunes shouldn't be too surprised by that. He's a nature freak, some might even say a damn filthy hippie, but I'll just say that he's a dude that appreciates the subtle beauty and hidden intricacies of the natural world and tries to translate that into a musical form. His tracks always evoke the sounds of things growing, breathing or simply existing in tranquility.

You can preview more tracks and even pre-order "Hyphae" (£7.99 GBP + FREE DELIVERY) on the Boltfish site now and you know we here at Gravity Halo will keep you in the loop when an official release date is announced.   EDIT: Official release date is Sept 30th 2010 (thx murrayminty)
