A new one from Mumkai here. This is a supreme banger titled "Hyperion" with some sick atmospherics, nice beat work and an epic distorted guitar line. You might not be ready for it, but here it is.

If you've been following this blog for awhile, you may remember we posted an early version of this track by Mumkai waaaay back when. It was noticeably absent from his Gravity Halo release EP1 (which you absolutely NEED in your collection btw), but now we have a reworked version debuting with an official video filmed in super 8 by ohann c. and edited by janevis. The song is out of control and the video features some creepy landscapes, a few dead animals, some gas masks and, of course, some giant humanoid roaches banging out beats on an MPC...you know, normal everyday shit.

I haven't been updating much lately, mostly because I moved into a new place last month, which was a huge ordeal...unfortunately, while I was away I missed a lot of cool stuff.  Our boy Mumkai has been doing his thing down in Los Angeles, playing a bunch of shows around town since the release of his EP1 on Gravity Halo and he also dropped this new track, "Pistola" recently.  In fact, this isn't a new track, but a new version of an old unreleased track that we posted many moons ago when we first profiled Mumkai.  Check out the track below and stay tuned for more upcoming show dates!

Los Angeles' Mumkai had two excellent tracks on our "Broken Pieces" compilation last year as well as a whole slew of sick one-offs, so we've been very excited to get our hands on the debut EP by this talented beat-maker. Finally, the wait is over! On "EP1", Mumkai delivers an eerie voyage through dusty samples, crisp, snappy beats, funky grooves and psychedelic ramblings to create a sound that evokes LA's current beat luminaries like Flying Lotus and Nosaj Thing, while bringing his own trademark vibe to create something that's a bit heavier on the hip hop vibes, a bit more rockin' and a lot wonkier.  Really diggin' this one, so definitely head over to the bandcamp page, choose your own price and give this one a spin!

If you're like me, you're looking forward to the upcoming EP in the works from Gravity Halo regular, Mumkai. Well, now you can finally get a little taste of what to expect from what looks to be a future classic with this track "M02 Live". Mumkai delivers his trademark eerie instrumental hip-hop stylings on this joint, which was recorded live using an MPC, Kaoss Pad and a sequencer. To me, this track sounds like something off the jukebox of a rundown old bar in the netherworld. Siiiiickness. Check it!

What's up everybody?!  If you're a regular visitor to the site then you may have noticed some changes happening, so I'm here to get you hip to the new style.

There are more share options for each post now - like on Facebook, share on Facebook, re-Tweet, Blog This, email, share on Google Buzz, etc.  If you like a post, please share it and help us spread our tendrils across the world.  We support a lot of great artists here and they definitely deserve all the additional promotion they can get, so help a brotha out!  It only takes a second.

We scrapped the event calendar, which I actually liked, but was just too annoying to keep up and in its place you'll notice our shiny new Facebook widget.  If you haven't added the Gravity Halo Facebook page yet, you probably should because not only do we post up content that doesn't go on the blog, but we're also using the page to promote shows by our featured artists all around the globe.  If you don't use Facebook (WTF?), you can always browse our posts for more content using said widget.

The other thing you may have noticed is the lack of new releases.  Believe me, it's not by choice.  We're eagerly awaiting projects in the works by Mumkai, Mummyshroud, Awkward and Sendy...but while we're waiting for them to finish their masterpieces our slate is pretty empty, so any artists that would like to put something out on our imprint feel free to email us a demo!  We're always on the lookout for new music, so don't be scared, homie!

Last, but not least - it's February 1st and that means The Carrier Wave's Rotation has finished.  Unfortunately for us (and him), Chris came down with a case of writers block, but hey...that's real.  The shit happens, even to the best of us.  Still, some interesting discussions were had and production concepts thrown about.  For the month of February, moto-SLAVE is helming Rotation 2, so check it out!

Big thanks to awkward for taking the time to upload the "Broken Pieces" compilation so that ye may preview it before ye download, listen on the go or just generally be in awe of its awesomeness wherever you may be.

Well friends, we're 8 months into this Gravity Halo undertaking and so far, so good.  We're steadily gaining readership, hits and most importantly, we're putting out a TON of great music by some really talented artists and giving them a platform for their music to spread across the globe.  Now that's not to say that we've reached our goals or even a comfortable resting place because there's lots more room to grow, but it is a great time to put together a release that sums up what Gravity Halo is all about.  Thus, we present to you our first compilation/mixtape - "Broken Pieces".  These 14 tracks run the spectrum, from awkward's ambient noisescapes to Acidburp's lush, progressive breakcore to Mumkai's neck snapping beats to Sendy's epic sound adventures and Rock Hyrax's intricate micro-glitch - the styles vary drastically, but the connecting threads are clear.  These are all incredibly skilled independent artists that are driven by their love of making tunes and that's apparent in every second of this record.

Enjoy the release, spread it around, repost, reblog, re-fuckin-tweet, tell some dude on the street...let's do this, people!

Another new track from Los Angeles' Mumkai.  If you don't know, you better aks somebody (or browse past entries on this blog...he does some great tracks).  This time around he pairs some eerie, sample-heavy instrumental beats with icy cold keys and some really nice guitar and glockenspiel melodies floating through.  Very cinematic shit.  Has a kind of old-school psych rock feel to it as well.  Diggin' it!

I've known this cat Marc Mumcian a.k.a. Mumkai for a looooooooooong time. And I mean a loooooooooong time. Way back when the internet was still in its infancy...when Photoshop looked more like MS Paint...when a 32MB hard drive meant you were seriously ballin'...when people clowned you for being on AOL instead of Prodigy. You know what I'm talking about.

We played in an instrumental post-rock band back in those days, with Marc holding down the rhythm section on the bass. Since then, we've both evolved quite a bit musically and Marc's brought his keen sense of rhythm and funk to the sick beats he cranks out under the Mumkai moniker. DJ Premier meets DJ Shadow meets Flying Lotus with eerie string arrangements, dark atmosphere and some great sample flipping...y'all should definitely check his shit out. Ultra class.
