artist: Mumkai
title: EP1
label: Gravity Halo Recordings
catalog #: GRH-009

tracks:

01. Brains
02. Scarce Basics
03. All These Gifts
04. Premo
05. Sacred Past Times
06. PolyCule
07. Birds
08. RAW

Los Angeles' Mumkai had two excellent tracks on our "Broken Pieces" compilation last year as well as a whole slew of sick one-offs, so we've been very excited to get our hands on the debut EP by this talented beat-maker. Finally, the wait is over! On "EP1", Mumkai delivers an eerie voyage through dusty samples, crisp, snappy beats, funky grooves and psychedelic ramblings to create a sound that evokes LA's current beat luminaries like Flying Lotus and Nosaj Thing, while bringing his own trademark vibe to create something that's a bit heavier on the hip hop vibes, a bit more rockin' and a lot wonkier.  Really diggin' this one, so definitely head over to the bandcamp page, choose your own price and give this one a spin!

Stream after the break!

You can now stream the Adequate Remixes EP via awkward's soundcloud page.  To hear the tracks in all their full, non-compressed glory, you can still grab the limited edition, handmade double-CDr release of the remix EP + the original Adequate EP from awkward's website.  Plus, you'll get 2 extra mp3 remixes when you buy the record, so it's a pretty sweet deal.  Better get on it.

New video for the track "Textures" off Modus' latest EP Transistor Blister. The video's static NYC landscapes complement the heavily hip-hop influenced instrumentals laced with subtle synth lines and head-nodding beats. Transistor Blister is available now on iTunes for only $4.00, so check it out!

Check out this cool video for William S. Braintree's track "Tonem" from his recent release Synesthesiac.

If you're like me, you're looking forward to the upcoming EP in the works from Gravity Halo regular, Mumkai. Well, now you can finally get a little taste of what to expect from what looks to be a future classic with this track "M02 Live". Mumkai delivers his trademark eerie instrumental hip-hop stylings on this joint, which was recorded live using an MPC, Kaoss Pad and a sequencer. To me, this track sounds like something off the jukebox of a rundown old bar in the netherworld. Siiiiickness. Check it!

artist: The Carrier Wave
title: 4x4: Acid Stompers
label: upitup records
catalog #: ???

tracks:

01. Tastes Like Hairspray
02. Admiral Acid (feat. Admiral Awesome)
03. Sky Eyes
04. Orange Meanies

The third of The Carrier Wave's debut EP sequence is now out on upitup records as a free download. The 4-track EP features the awesome track "Tastes Like Hairspray" that we posted awhile back as well as 3 other tracks that bring some really lush synth stabs, frantic drum machine strikes and classic techno stylings, all drenched in a bath of bubbly acid goodness.

This is probably one of the sickest acid tracks I've heard in awhile. From The Carrier Wave's upcoming EP "4x4: Acid Stompers", check out the promo video for the lead track "Tastes Like Hairspray".

"4x4: Acid Stompers" will be released soon on upitup records.

What's up everybody?!  If you're a regular visitor to the site then you may have noticed some changes happening, so I'm here to get you hip to the new style.

There are more share options for each post now - like on Facebook, share on Facebook, re-Tweet, Blog This, email, share on Google Buzz, etc.  If you like a post, please share it and help us spread our tendrils across the world.  We support a lot of great artists here and they definitely deserve all the additional promotion they can get, so help a brotha out!  It only takes a second.

We scrapped the event calendar, which I actually liked, but was just too annoying to keep up and in its place you'll notice our shiny new Facebook widget.  If you haven't added the Gravity Halo Facebook page yet, you probably should because not only do we post up content that doesn't go on the blog, but we're also using the page to promote shows by our featured artists all around the globe.  If you don't use Facebook (WTF?), you can always browse our posts for more content using said widget.

The other thing you may have noticed is the lack of new releases.  Believe me, it's not by choice.  We're eagerly awaiting projects in the works by Mumkai, Mummyshroud, Awkward and Sendy...but while we're waiting for them to finish their masterpieces our slate is pretty empty, so any artists that would like to put something out on our imprint feel free to email us a demo!  We're always on the lookout for new music, so don't be scared, homie!

Last, but not least - it's February 1st and that means The Carrier Wave's Rotation has finished.  Unfortunately for us (and him), Chris came down with a case of writers block, but hey...that's real.  The shit happens, even to the best of us.  Still, some interesting discussions were had and production concepts thrown about.  For the month of February, moto-SLAVE is helming Rotation 2, so check it out!

This new Moth Conk Midi track "Open Tray" offers some playful acid silliness with a shit-ton of really nice, rubbery synth lines, think breaks and lovely melodies to start off your weekend. Rumor has it we should be getting a lot more MCM music in the near future, so I guess you should start getting psyched right..............NOW!

Open Tray by Moth Conk Midi

And if you're a European reader, be sure to check out MCM as well as other Gravity Halo artists at Once Upon A Festival April 15th in Belgium or Lost Theory Festival August 17th in Croatia. More info on these festivals and others to come!

artist: The Carrier Wave
title: Rich & Strange EP
label: Complex Sound Sagacity
catalog #: CSS009

tracks:

01. Funky Deschanel
02. Prim Proper Acid
03. Bass Spatz One
04. Spade Cruise Lines
05. So Long Lefty

Chicago's The Carrier Wave is finishing up his inaugural stint on the Rotation(s) blog within the next week and just in the nick of time comes his latest EP from our Maltese homies over at C.S.S., "Rich & Strange". This EP features more of the fine acid stylings demonstrated on his debut "Live Takes Vol. 1" this time expanding on the format by dropping some nice orchestral elements as well.  Like a "Richard D. James Album" kind of effect, but obviously with a lot more 303 and a little less drum n' bass influence.  Some really good stuff here, so be sure to check it out and head of to the Rotation(s) blog for some more tasty tidbits of wisdom from Mr. Wave.

Glassmaker by Ochre

Really cool new track (in progress) from Ochre called "Glassmaker". A bit of a departure from his typical sound, this track is a little more...housey...kinda? Obviously it's still an Ochre track, lots of glossy synths, pristine production and arpeggios aplenty, but style-wise it's some new territory and I must say I'm digging it.

Press play and enjoy the squelchiness!

Skytree is quickly becoming one of my favorite producers in the game right now. His music is an odd-ball amalgamation of electro-acoustic IDM, dubstep and BoC-style atmospherics that gels together in a way that probably shouldn't work, but totally does. Acoustic guitars, nature sounds, crunchy beats and robotic bass voices all culminate in my mind's eye, creating visions of a far off future where the only remnants of humanity are ancient clockwork robots that tend the Earth as they slowly rust away. It's rare that an artist can inspire such vivid imagery in my head and that's one of the things I'm really digging about Skytree's latest output. I think he's broken some new ground with these tracks and I look forward to hearing more!

Overpowered ft.iAM9 (Acidburp Remix) by acidburp

Very subtle and beautiful remix of Moth Conk Midi's track "Overpowered" by Acidburp. Moth Conk Midi is a collaboration between Oxynucid and Vertical67 and their 2010 album "Amazing Stories" is, well...pretty amazing. You can download it here, if you aren't already hip to it. "Overpowered" features the vocals of iAM9.

Enjoy!

Some absolute sickness in this dubstep tune by Lucid Rhythms. Filthy! Most people seem to forget the DUB in dubstep, but Lucid generally brings that Jamaican influenced sound and this time is no different. You can almost feel the Caribbean sun overhead, the sand beneath your feet and the oversized 80s boombox on your shoulder. Turn this one WAY UP!

Lucid Rhythms - My Dubplates by Lucid Rhythms

There haven't been many new Cats On Earth tracks as of late...I keep saying to myself that I'll do another CoE album someday, but the truth is I don't go back to writing in this style much these days, so it will probably just be one-off tracks for the foreseeable future.

This one makes heavy utilization of my new, mostly hardware setup, so it's pretty different than past tracks under this alias, but if you've been listening to my moto-SLAVE stuff it won't be that drastic of a departure. Lots of analog synths and drum machines, a sick JX-3P bassline and some Blade Runner-esque soundscapes. Enjoy!

cats on earth - frequencies by cats on earth

So long 2010! 2011 is starting off uber-right. Not only is the Rotation(s) blog in effect, but this new Sendy track is just rocking my extra thick wool socks off. You already expect the break chopping, which is on point as usual, but man...the synth work and atmosphere on "A Beautiful Shame" is pretty intense. At times reminiscent of the early Plug EPs (with that bass breakdown...oh yes!), but at the same time on a whole other level.

I'm definitely psyched at the possibility of a new Sendy record in 2011. Make it happen, girl!
